The San Francisco 49ers officially return to real football today! The preseason is a wrap and we are back to regular season football for the first time in over eight months. The 49ers get things going this afternoon at 1:25 P.M. when they head to Raymond James Stadium to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game will air on FOX as a regional broadcast. Kenny Albert and Ronde Barber will be calling the game.

The 49ers ride into the season with way less momentum than last year. Now that everyone is healthy, they can try this winning football thing again. They already have some issues, namely the loss of running back Jerick McKinnon to more knee issues and Nick Bosa is still a question mark on just how healthy he is.

The Buccaneers have made some changes. They fired Dirk Koetter and brought in former Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. Fired New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles is serving as Arians’ defensive coordinator and just those two names mean an improved Buccaneers offense.

The Buccaneers had a quarterback duo last year with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston. Fitzpatrick has moved on and the team is Winston’s again. In Week 3 of the preseason, Winston took five sacks against a good Cleveland Browns defensive line. They also lost Jason Pierre Paul to an injury in the offseason.

The 49ers will be without wide receivers Jalen Hurd, Trent Taylor, and safety Jimmie Ward. The Buccaneers will be without safety Justin Evans and quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Wide receiver Mike Evans was questionable due to an illness, but is expected to play.
