I love numbers. More specifically, statistics. Since I was kid I’ve been obsessed with the numerically significant aspects of the game and the stories they can tell.
So, for this weeks gameday edition of the Nuggets, I thought I would share a number:
And what is the significance of that number?
It’s the number of days since the 49ers last participated in an NFL playoff game.
Two thousand, one hundred, and eighty three days.
It’s been a long, difficult road since for the faithful. A road littered with Jim Tomsula’s, Trent Baalke’s, Blaine Gabbert’s. Weekly blowouts. Embarrassing losses. Laughter at our expense from pretty much every other fan base and media outlet. Friends, family members, co-workers...
But that road has finally come to an end.
And for all the talk of fair weather fans, the truth is that there aren’t too many here on Niners Nation. We know, because we can look around and see the names. We were all here for those awful seasons. We were all here in the comments section. Arguing. Consoling. Supporting. Hoping. And most importantly, waiting.
Waiting for this day.
And now, the wait is over. So enjoy it faithful. Eat, drink, and be merry! Scream at your TV’s. Enjoy every minute, every second.
Because that number is no longer 2,183.
That number is now zero.
