In Week 12, the 49ers faced the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium on primetime and completely dominated the game from beginning to end to a final scoreline of 37-8. It was the start of a difficult stretch of the 49ers’ schedule and the domination showed that the 49ers were one of the top teams in the league. Now they meet 2 months later after defeating each other’s division rivals in the Divisional round to decide who represents the NFC in the Super Bowl.
While the win over the Packers in Week 12 was a great win, Kyle Shanahan will look to make sure that his team does not underestimate the Packers this week. A Super Bowl is on the line and the team has a golden opportunity to add another Lombardi Trophy to the trophy cabinet. The Packers are a good team and they still have future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers running the show. The 49ers will want to come out fast on Sunday to try to get an expected huge home crowd going and get the Packers in a quick, early hole. If the 49ers can take an early lead and get the Packers in more passing downs, the pass rush can do what it does best which is get to the quarterback.
The biggest piece to the pass rush has been rookie Nick Bosa. On Tuesday, Bosa was named the Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America. He was a game wrecker all season long and was the right choice for these awards. He along with Dee Ford helped revamp the 49ers’ pass rush, which was almost non-existent last season. Now with Dee back from injury, the pass rush can try to wreck another game just like they did last week against the Vikings and try to send the 49ers to the Super Bowl in Miami.
