49ers waive DL Alex Barrett and CB Parnell Motley

Wecome back, K’Waun? Also, a good indication that Jordan Willis passed his COVID tests.

The San Francisco 49ers announced they waived edge rusher Alex Barrett and cornerback Parnell Motley. Barrett has been on and off the roster multiple times since the start of training camp. He played 19 snaps against the Patriots, nine against the Rams, and 12 against the Dolphins. Barrett did not register a QB hit or sack in 23 pass rushes. Barrett’s release likely signals Jordan Willis passed his COVID tests and will join the team.

Motley was claimed off waivers October 13, but he was inactive for Week 7 against the Patriots. This is a strong indication that the team will activate K’Waun Williams from the injured reserve. If that’s the case, does that mean Ahkello Witherspoon is inactive, or Jamar Taylor? Hard to imagine the team doesn’t have Taylor active after a two-interception performance.

Kyle Shanahan will speak to the media at 3:30 p.m. PT to provide further injury updates and answer questions about who will and won’t be active moving forward.
