The San Francisco 49ers activated two players ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The Niners promoted safety Jared Mayden and tight end Daniel Helm from the practice squad.

With starting strong safety Jaquiski Tartt done for the season due to turf toe, Mayden gets the call-up. The undrafted free agent was in the lineup for the Week 7 win against the New England Patriots before moving back to the practice squad. Mayden started 36 games for Alabama, recording 82 tackles and four interceptions during his four-year collegiate run with the Crimson Tide.

The 49ers re-signed Helm from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad in September. Helm suited up last week against the Green Bay Packers and was used in a special teams role. The 25-year-old finished his college career with 69 receptions for 767 yards and six touchdowns over three seasons with Duke.

San Francisco will get a much-needed BYE Week following this weekend’s contest. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is optimistic that receiver Deebo Samuel and cornerback Richard Sherman should be back in the lineup for the Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
