Stats & Eggs: Don’t give the ball to the other team

Everything you need to know in less than five minutes

The path to victory for the 49ers is very narrow these days as injuries have whittled their offense down to Brandon Aiyuk and a prayer on most Sundays. Unfortunately the team’s penchant for turning the ball over has fans saying, “Are you kidding me?!” far more than the last name of their rookie wide receiver.

In today’s episode of Stats & Eggs, Kyle Shanahan and Nick Mullens discuss the impact of the turnovers in yesterday’s game, as well as the season as a whole.

As a team, San Francisco has given the ball away five more times than they’ve taken it away this season. They’re only six turnovers away from matching last year’s total and they still have six more games on the schedule.

Who do you think is most to blame for all these turnovers? Is it the revolving door at quarterback? Is Kyle Shanahan’s system too complicated for all eleven players to get on the same page? Do the wide receivers need to fight for the ball more when it’s in the air? Who gets the biggest slice of blame pie in your eyes?

At this point, it’s probably more important for the Niners that they get it under control in 2021, but it sure is frustrating to watch as a fan.
