ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be sidelined indefinitely with his high-ankle sprain and could land on the injured reserve. Jimmy G has failed to finish two of his four starts this season. NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo said Garoppolo would miss at least a month. It’s Nick Mullens’s time for the foreseeable future. Garoppolo is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six weeks and possibly longer if surgery is needed, per Schefter.
Ian Rapoport added that tight end George Kittle has a small fracture in his foot that was revealed with further testing. Kittle is expected to miss extended time and will likely land on the injured reserve. So, as the team was confident they’re getting Jordan Reed back, they lose their star tight end. The initial X-rays came back negative for Kittle, but the MRI always tells the truth. Adam Schefter tweeted that Kittle will miss eight weeks. That’s....the rest of the season.
These are some of the players that have landed on the injured reserve this season for the 49ers:
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
RB Raheem Mostert
RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
WR Jalen Hurd
TE George Kittle
TE Jordan Reed
DL Nick Bosa
DL Dee Ford
DL Solomon Thomas
CB Richard Sherman
The injury luck was bad last year, and it’s somehow worse a season later. What a brutal 24 hours it’s been for this team. A fire sale is happening before Tuesday’s trade deadline, isn’t it?
