San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead has been named the Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP. Armstead hosted “Storytime with Arik Armstead” in his hometown of Elk Grove, California, where he read to students. Armstead’s virtual program has impacted 440 kids internationally.
Here’s Armstead:
“Being named the NFLPA’s Week 10 Community MVP is an honor. As we all know, this year has been tough on so many, making our mission to give back to the community through the Armstead Academic Project even stronger. My hope is to be as impactful as I can by blessing others through the many blessings I have received in my life.”
Armstead founded the “Armstead Academic Project” in 2019 to ensure public school students have access to quality education while providing them with the resources they need to be successful. His foundation has invested $200,000 back into his community and hosted over 1,000 underserved youth at four free football camps. Armstead has also raised over $50,000 in funds, which has provided 350 Chromebooks, resources, and one year of pre-paid internet to students for distance learning at Sacramento’s Mercy Housing.
We don’t talk enough about the work these players do off the field, so it’s nice that Arik is recognized for the job he’s done for his community over the past couple of years.
