Stats & Eggs: Not a bad bye week for San Francisco

Everything you need to know in less than five minutes

Yesterday, Kyle Posey gave you a guide for what to root for in order for the 49ers to sneak into this playoffs this year. In today’s Stats & Eggs Podcast, we check in on how things went in that department. If clicking links isn’t your thing, here’s what Kyle suggested:

A Panthers win over the Lions —> check.

A Cowboys win over the Vikings —> check.

A Buccaneers win over the Rams... TBD tonight on MNF.

In other words, things have gone just about as well as they could have gone while the 49ers were licking their wounds on the couch. If Taysom Hill had totally imploded against the Falcons the day would have been perfect, but beggars can’t be choosers at this point.

Here’s the NFC playoff picture right now:

  1. Saints (8-2)
  2. Seahawks (7-3) - Win tiebreak over GB due to strength of victory, which is the fourth tiebreaker for playoff seeding (after that I think they play a rock, paper, scissors tournament)
  3. Packers (7-3)
  4. Eagles (3-6-1)
  5. Buccaneers (7-3)
  6. Rams (6-3)
  7. Cardinals (6-4)
  8. Bears (5-5)
  9. Vikings (4-6) - Win tiebreak over DET due to head to head record, win tie break over SF due to better record against the NFC.
  10. Lions (4-6) - Win tiebreak over SF due to better record against the NFC.
  11. 49ers (4-6)

It’s going to take a lot of help, but a few more days like yesterday and a couple of wins for the 49ers could make things a lot more interesting for us the rest of the season.
