Willis, Young, and Lynch among 25 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Arizona Cardinals v San Francisco 49ers

On Tuesday morning, the Pro Football Hall of Fame named the 25 modern-era semifinalists between 130 nominees. Among the 25 listed were San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch, and two of the most prominent figures in the franchise’s history in Patrick Willis and Bryant Young.

According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame website, there are four first-year eligible players - Jared Allen, Calvin Johnson, Peyton Manning, and Charles Woodson. The three latter players have arguments for being the best player at their position during their generation. Eric Allen, Willie Anderson, Cornelius Bennett, and Rodney Harrison are Semifinalists for the first time, although they’ve previously been eligible for the Hall of Fame.

The list will trim to 15 in the next step of the selection process. The list will then increase to 18 finalists once the recommended nominees of the Hall of Fame’s Coach, Contributor, and Senior Committees are included. We’ll know if Lynch, Willis, or Young make it when the finalists are announced the week of Super Bowl LV.
