The San Francisco 49ers are officially the NFL’s walking wounded. The team put quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle on injured reserve early Thursday and announced three more players will be inactive for their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
Running back Tevin Coleman, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles are inactive tonight. The Niners will also be without Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne and Deebo Samuel, who are all on the reserve/COVID-19 list after Bourne had a false positive for the coronavirus.
The 49ers will be paper thin at wide receiver against Green Bay. The team will go with Trent Taylor, Richie James, Kevin White and River Cracraft at the position. But, San Francisco did activate tight end Jordan Reed, who should get plenty of targets from quarterback Nick Mullens.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s hands are tied, so it will be interesting to see how he game plans with such a limited roster.
