The San Francisco 49ers are just over an hour away from kicking off against the Dallas Cowboys on the road. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that running back Ezekiel Elliott, who did not practice all week, won’t play against the Niners. Head coach Mike McCarthy had said he expected Zeke to play. Tony Pollard is a capable backup, as he has 339 yards on 75 carries this season. Zeke hasn’t looked like himself this season behind a significantly worse offensive line. Weird. Elliott is dealing with soreness from a calf contusion.
Jason Verrett is inactive today. That’s a surprise as Verrett wasn’t listed on the injury report all week. The team announced that Verrett is out with an illness. Remember, when you have any prominent symptoms, like a cough, fever, etc. you have to sit out even if you don’t test positive for COVID-19. K’Waun Williams and Emmanuel Moseley are active, so the 49ers starting cornerbacks to begin the season will play for what feels like the first time since Week 1.
Fred Warner is also active, which isn’t a surprise.
Here are today’s inactives:
- CB Jason Verrett (illness)
- WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring)
- C Hroniss Grasu (knee)
- LB Mark Nzeocha
