George Kittle on Jimmy G: I’m going to go with the guy that got us to the Super Bowl

Kittle sticks up for his quarterback on KNBR Tuesday

It’s still only December and the Jimmy G. takes keep rolling on in. The latest opinion comes from none other than George Kittle, who had nothing but words of support for Garoppolo during an interview with KNBR on Tuesday.

“I do have a little bit of a voice, and I think I’ve said multiple times I love playing football with Jimmy G., and our team is different when we’re out there...I can’t say enough about the leader that Jimmy G. is and how his presence changes how the team is feeling and how the team goes about its business...Jimmy G. is our quarterback. Moving forward he’s our quarterback. That’s all I really have to say about it. I’m just going to go with the guy that took us to the Super Bowl and played at a high level the entire year. That’s my case for Jimmy G. and I think it’s a decent one.”

As I say in today’s Stats & Eggs Podcast (which you can hear by clicking below), I wouldn’t expect George Kittle to say anything different from that - whether it was about Jimmy Garoppolo or any other teammate he’s ever had.

The truth is that all the player endorsements in the world won’t save Garoppolo’s job if Kyle Shanahan thinks another quarterback is a significant upgrade. The very fact that they were looking into acquiring Tom Brady this past offseason is proof of that.

So while Kittle’s comments are nice, and I’m sure they’re appreciated by #10, they don’t really amount to a whole heck of a lot in the grand scheme of things.
