As the San Francisco 49ers have suffered from a slew of injuries at cornerback, the team elevated Tim Harris in place of the injured Emmanuel Moseley, who didn’t practice all week due to a sore hamstring. Harris will likely play on special teams, while Ahkello Witherspoon, Dontae Johnson, and Jimmie Ward fill in for Moseley in the slot. The defense must get creative, but that’s where Robert Saleh has excelled all season.
Trent Taylor being inactive comes as a bit of a surprise, but he wasn’t giving the 49ers anything on offense or special teams. During the week, both he and Brandon Aiyuk were alternating as returners. We could see Aiyuk as the returner tonight. I love it, honestly. I know many fans are in the mindset that “you don’t want him to get hurt” or something along those lines. It’s football. You are at risk of getting hurt every play. How often do we see punt returners get injured compared to fluke injuries? Not often. If this is the case, it gives the 49ers a significant boost on special teams and makes life easier for the offense if they have a shorter field to work with.
So the 49ers receivers tonight will be:
Deebo Samuel
Brandon Aiyuk
Kendrick Bourne
Richie James
River Cracraft
Also, all four running backs are available tonight. Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Jerick McKinnon, and Tevin Coleman are all active. I’m curious to see whether Wilson remains Mostert’s backup over Coleman. He should.
Here are tonight’s inactives:
CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring)
CB K’Waun Williams (ankle)
WR Trent Taylor
RB Austin Walter
