The late Dennis Green famously once said, “They are who we thought they were” after a particularly frustrating loss by his Cardinals team. Last night, in the Cardinals’ stadium, the 49ers suffered a particularly frustrating loss, yet they refuse to admit what is now obvious to so many watching at home: they’re just not that good right now.

Here’s what Dre Greenlaw said after the game.

“We’re a lot better team than what we displayed. It was an important game and everybody felt good going into it.”

I’m sorry, but it’s not Week 1 anymore, it was Week 13. At this point, you’re exactly what your record says you are. You’re the team that gave up 236 passing yards to Josh Allen in the first half. You’re the team that let Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley combine for 19 catches, 222 yards and a touchdown on what had been the fourth best secondary in the league coming into last night. You’re the team with the QB that false-started before a quarterback sneak at the one inch line.

You’re a 5-7 football team that isn’t going anywhere fast. Saying anything otherwise is disingenuous and intellectually dishonest.
