NFL: Super Bowl LIV-San Francisco 49ers vs Kansas City Chiefs Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

A few key plays get made and the Niners would be Super Bowl champions. Unfortunately, the plays weren’t made and they go home without the Lombardi Trophy. The Niners exceeded expectations this season in making it all the way to the Super Bowl. They were expected to be competitive in their division race, but being one of the best teams in the league was a surprise. Even though they suffered a heartbreaking loss, there is reason to be optimistic next season.

A lot of the talk around the loss come around the performance of Jimmy Garoppolo. He could have silenced a lot of his critics with a game-winning 4th quarter performance, but it was not meant to be. Now the hot takes are talking about the 49ers trying to upgrade at quarterback. Jimmy just completed his 1st full season as a starter. He helped take one of the worst teams in 2018 and made them one of the best teams in 2019. He is going to be the quarterback in 2020. Sure, he would love a few throws back to help the 49ers win the Super Bowl, but the loss should be attributed to the whole team. Laying the blame solely on Jimmy is irresponsible. He has a few things to work on this offseason, but him and Kyle should be able to keep the 49ers in contention in 2020.

Nick Bosa came in to the squad with a lot of expectations and he exceeded all of them. He proved that he is an absolute gamewrecker. He led a defense that was the best in the league while taking home Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He finished the regular season with 9 sacks and had another 4 sacks in the playoffs. Having him with DeForest Buckner and Fred Warner as the cornerstones will make the defense formidable for the years to come.

With these pieces in place and most of the coaching staff coming back, the 49ers should be able to remain a top team and compete for the Super Bowl next season.
