The 49ers 31-20 loss in Super bowl 54 to the Chiefs cut all of deep, and the hot takes surrounding the game have been fiery. “Kyle Shanahan can’t win big games, Jimmy Garoppolo should be cut for Tom Brady,” are just a few of the national narratives that have been popping up in every direction. Upon reviewing the game, Kyle Shanahan should not receive any of the blame. In regards to running more in the final quarter, he started each of those drives with a run. As he usually does, he used the first three quarters to set up passing concepts that he deployed in the fourth, but through a series of execution errors, they did not pay off. I have nothing against Kendrick Bourne, but he ran the wrong route multiple times, including the pivotal fourth quarter 3rd and 5 with 5:23 left in the game, Garoppolo threw to the corner where Bourne was supposed to be, but he ran an in-breaking route.
