On Saturday, the XFL returned. I didn’t watch any games, but by all accounts, “opening day” was promising, and the league looks like it may be around for a while. There were big named coaches, new rules, a professional broadcast, and a player dropping an F-bomb live during an interview.
The DC Defenders, lead by Cardale Jones’ two touchdown passes, defeated the Seattle Dragons 31-19. The other game featured the Houston Roughnecks against the Los Angeles Wildcats. Houston won decidedly 37-17. Former Indianapolis Colts backup P.J. Walker threw four touchdowns to four different receivers. Sunday’s first game will feature the Tampa Bay Vipers led by former Kansas City Chiefs’ backup Aaron Murray. They’ll take on Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin and the New York Guardians.
The second game of the day kicks off at 2:00 p.m. PT. That’ll feature the St. Louis Battlehawks who are quarterbacked by Jordan Ta’amu at quarterback and have NFL Draft community legend and former Seattle Seahawks running back Christine Michael at running back. Former Raiders punter Marquette King is on the roster as well. They’ll take on the Dallas Renegades, who are led by former Pittsburgh Steelers backup Landry Jones. I swore a year ago; Willie Beavers was with the San Francisco 49ers leading up to the season. He’s starting at left tackle.
