San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead joined NFL Network’s Steve Wyche to discuss the decision to sign an extension with the Niners. Armstead shared his thoughts on what it means to the team committing to him:
It’s amazing, you know. I didn’t want to be anywhere else. I’m from Sacramento, the Niners drafted me five years ago, going through the process, I really never imagined myself [playing] anywhere else. So it really wasn’t about the money for me. I wanted to be back in San Francisco and win a Super Bowl.
Armstead was asked what it was like to lose his good friend DeForest Buckner:
It was a crazy day. Super excited that he got that payday. I wish it were with us. Me and DeFo have been playing alongside each other for so many years now. It’s definitely a weird day, you know, mixed emotions. Super happy for him that he got that payday, and I know he’s going to do great things out there. Definitely still wish we were playing together and continuing our career together.
With all the Tom Brady Rumors, Wyche asked Armstead how the players dealt with that inside the building:
We hear stuff just like the fans, and everyone else in the media hear stuff. It’s funny to look at and see, but when you’re in the building and what Jimmy has brought to our team. Putting us on the right track and really turning around the organization, you don’t expect anything like that to change. He’s our guy, and he’s the leader of our team, and he’s going to continue to do that.
There it is, more confidence in Jimmy G.
