We need to trade up with our #13 and #31 picks for the Jaguars #9 and #42 picks. It is extremely important that we get an impact player out of the Deforest Buckner trade. I personally think Jerry Jeudy is as close to a can’t miss as an impact player as we are going to get in this year’s draft without trading the farm. It may even cost us a little more than our #13 and #31 but I think Jerry Jeudy and Deebo Samuels will be a wide receiver duo that will put fear in opposing teams. I would make that trade even if Jacksonville only gave us the #9 and #73 picks. Of course that means the Jaguars have to be willing to make that trade.
I know a lot of people think we need to have a large number of draft picks but we really don’t have that many openings on this team and the players we would be drafting will probably not be as good as the players we already have. We could draft a defensive tackle to replace Buckner but I think the 49ers are going to see how it works out with players like Solomon Thomas, Julian Taylor, DJ Jones and Ronald Blair first. As critical as I have been in the past, I think Thomas will do just fine on running down and Blair will probably fill in well on passing downs. Don’t get me wrong, I know they aren’t Buckner but neither are the players in this year’s draft.
I will be really surprised if the 49ers draft an offensive lineman this year. I think they feel they already took care of the offensive line but they could surprise me by taking a tackle. It could happen but I doubt it. They are not going to use the #13 pick to have the player sit on the bench.
Box safeties are pretty much a dime a dozen so I would be surprised if they used a pick before the third round on a backup. I see us drafting Jerry Jeudy, a tight end to compliment Kittle in multiple tight end sets and another linebacker to replace Mark Nzeocha and compete with Azeez Al-Shaair.
The only other player I think could make a splash on this team is Darrynton Evan and the 49ers have already taken a look at him. I think he is the best outside zone runner in the draft and his ball security is impressive with no fumbles in 482 carries.
