David Liechty did a great job last year running out Community Mock Draft, and he’s back again to run it this year.

Niners Nation’s that time of year again. You’re listening to the podcasts. You’re scrolling through Twitter and screaming into the void that you could do what all the pundits get paid to could be a GM if some billionaire would just give you a chance.

Time to put your money where your mouth is and rekindle the long-standing tradition of the Niners Nation Community Mock Draft!!! You think you’re the next Mel Kiper, Daniel Jeremiah, or…(throwing up in my mouth a little bit)...Pete Prisco? Now’s your chance!

For those of you unfamiliar with this grand tradition started by former NN editor, David “Fooch” Fucillo, I, Rowingdave, am coming out of my months-long sabbatical from NN to manage this unwieldy beast during the greatest public health/economic crisis our world has seen in 100 years. We’ve all got a little time on our hands, so for those unfamiliar with this event, here it is in a nutshell:

Loyal Niners Nation readers get together each year and do a mock community draft for all—yes, ALL— seven rounds for all 32 teams. One person is assigned one (sometimes, but not always more) team, and drafts for all of their respective picks. The clear trick is we can’t draft all of those picks until each reader submits their picks on time...which has been a problem in the past. I run a tight ship and can keep things moving, but this year we REALLY want to make sure that all people committed can stay in the process until it’s finished.

I will be creating a Google Spreadsheet that I will share for viewing purposes with all Community Draft participants. This will include the list of all draft picks, and an exhaustive Big Board of most (and I do mean most) draft-eligible players.

I will send out emails to five people at a time when your pick is on the clock or close to being on the clock. You will have no more than 5 hours to respond from that initial email. What I would like each participant to do is to email me their top five prospective players for their pick regardless of whether they know they are going to be unavailable during that time. For instance, if you are assigned the Giants, and you pick at #4, you know that Bengals/Redskins/Lions participants may pick your top player, so you would do something like this:

1. Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State

2. Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State

3. Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson

4. Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa

5. Kyle Posey, Overlord, Niners Nation

If Young and Okudah were gone, I would go with your top available, Isaiah Simmons. After each pick is made, I will update the spreadsheet and send out an email reminder to each participant in your “cluster” of who the pick was and who is “on the clock.”

You will send that email in a “Reply All” to everyone in the five-team cluster, so they know that the pick has been submitted. After the team before you picks, I will send you a reminder email, and you can submit your official pick. If I haven’t heard from you within 5 hours, I’m going with next up on your list, or I will make the pick for you. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DO THIS!!!! This isn’t the Rowingdave Community Mock’s about Niners Nation Faithful members who have enriched the quality of this site for years. I also would like you to submit the official pick like this:

Pick #13: 49ers select: Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama

Henry Ruggs is a blankety, blankety-blank who brings blankety blankety blank...(100 word limit on rationale).

As this goes on, and I start emailing you all, it will make more sense. My email is:

Please email me (from the preferred email address you will be using in the NN Community Mock Draft communication process) with your Niners Nation username and a list of teams that you would PREFER to draft for. I cannot guarantee you will get your first choice. I will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. PLEASE accept the team you are given. I am giving up my helm as the 49ers GM, and will, due to the fact that I live in Minnesota, draft for the Vikings this year. We need 31 more GMs...I would like the teams to be spoken for by Monday. As soon as teams are filled, I will create a group email chain and correspond with you by email, not by the comments. I will update the comment board with the finalized list of NN GMs and their corresponding teams.

Thanks for your interest! Let’s do this!
