Kyle’s update 5:15 p.m.: Add Michigan State cornerback Josiah Scott to the list, per Justin Melo. I was watching Scott earlier today finalizing my cornerback rankings, and Scott has a chance to provide the best value in the draft.

Scott is 5’9”, 185 pounds, and had one of the smallest wingspans at the NFL Combine. Because of that, he’s likely going to be stuck inside in the NFL. Scott did run a 4.42 40-yard dash. The best part about him is Scott doesn’t get beaten deep. He allowed some underneath throws for minimal yards, but only allowed only eight receptions on 31 targets over ten yards last season. Scott is smart, sound, and quicker than fast, which is saying something. Scott did hurt his knee and missed all but five games in 2018 due to the injury. The downside to Scott is he does play small, and that showed up against bigger receivers.

A month ago, we put together a list of nearly 30 prospects that the San Francisco 49ers had met with. Since then, restrictions have limited teams from meeting draft hopefuls face-to-face, but that has also led to teams having upwards to 30 virtual meetings. It feels like we find out a new 49ers virtual meeting every day. Here was the list of names before March 18:

  • Luq Barcoo, CB, San Diego State (EW)
  • Rodney Clemons, S, SMU (EW)
  • Lloyd Cushenberry, C, LSU (COM)
  • Ben Ellefson, TE, North Dakota State (EW)
  • Darrynton Evans, RB, Appalachian State (COM)
  • Mason Fine, QB, North Texas (EW)
  • Malik Harrison, ILB, Ohio State (SR)
  • Jared Hilbers, OT, Washington (EW)
  • Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU (COM)
  • Anfernee Jennings, 3-4OLB/OLB/ILB, Alabama (SR)
  • Collin Johnson, WR, Texas (SR)
  • Tony Jones, RB, Notre Dame (EW)
  • Mason Kinsey, WR, Berry (EW)
  • Larrell Murchison, DT, N.C. State (SR)
  • Michael Pinckney, OLB, Miami (EW)
  • Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU (COM)
  • Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama (COM)
  • Elijah Riley, CB, Army (EW)
  • Alton Robinson, DE/OLB, Syracuse (SR)
  • Casey Toohill, OLB, Stanford (EW)
  • Tommy Townsend, P, Florida (EW)
  • Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa (COM)
  • Kyle Hinton, OG, Washburn (COM)
  • Ross Blacklock, DL, TCU (COM)
  • K’Von Wallace, S, Clemson (COM)
  • Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, App. State (COM)

The virtual meetings are limited to an hour, and you can’t have any more than three virtual calls per player a week. There have been reports that the Bengals have been calling Joe Burrow three times a week. For the 49ers, we haven’t seen any repeat visits. Not to our knowledge, anyway. USA TODAY’s Justin Melo has been leaking the visits every day. On Saturday, Melo tweeted that the 49ers had a pre-draft visit/workout scheduled with Ron’dell Carter, but had to cancel due to the coronavirus. The Niners also met with Portland tight end Charlie Taumoepeau, per Melo.

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows wrote about a complete list that included some surprising names like Wisconsin’s Johnathan Taylor. Here is the list of virtual meetups by position.
