Going into the 2020 NFL Draft, it was no secret that the San Francisco 49ers were shopping running back Matt Breida.
General manager John Lynch pulled the trigger on Day 3, sending the 25-year-old to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
Breida took to Instagram to post a goodbye message to the organization and fans:

It’s been an honor being a 49er & I will forever be grateful to management, my coaches, teammates & most especially to the Niner Faithful. The bay will always hold a special place in my heart. Was blessed to be able to call this place home. Too my brothers I will love you guys forever. We went through a lot together to build something great and special. We are family forever! I’m excited about my next opportunity in Miami. I promise to give everything I have to help our team succeed. I can’t wait to get started, Miami!

Breida was part of the group effort the 49ers used at the running back position along with Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Jeff Wilson.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan rolled with Mostert and Coleman down the stretch, with Breida never playing more than 20% of the team’s offensive snaps from Week 13 through the playoffs.
Breida was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He ran for 1,902 yards and six touchdowns over his three seasons in San Francisco. His 5.0 yards per rushing attempt also stands out.
Anytime you can get solid production from a UDFA, it is a win. Breida will have the opportunity to get more touches with the Dolphins and has the ability to sustain a career in the NFL.
The 49ers signed nine undrafted free agents after they weren’t selected at the draft. They are: QB Broc Rutter, RB JaMycal Hasty, RB Salvon Ahmed, TE Chase Harrell, WR Chris Finke, LB Jonas Griffith, DB DeMarkus Acy, S Ronnell Perkins, S Jared Mayden.
Which of these players has the potential to contribute to the 49ers sooner than later?
