BetOnline released its 2020 Defensive Player of the Year odds along with a few other stat leaders that you can bet on. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has the 12th-highest odds to throw for the most yards next season. Star tight end George Kittle has the 19th-highest receiving yards odds, and his teammate Deebo Samuel isn’t far behind him at 25th, one spot ahead of Emmanuel Sanders.
Neither of those should come as a surprise as the 49ers weren’t known for giving one receiver a ton of targets in 2019. The same can be said with dividing carries. Running back Raheem Mostert had the 16th-highest odds too have the most rushing yards in 2020. We know the odds of Mostert having a rushing title is slim, considering he likely won’t have the bulk of the carries. Still, the fact that Mostert is under consideration for winning a rushing title when he entered 2019 with fewer than 50 career totals tells you the talent Mostert possesses.
Nick Bosa is the big surprise here. Betonline released their Defensive Player of the Year awards for 2020. The Watt brothers were in the top-five, and Khalil Mack is right behind them. Aaron Donald is first with 7/1 odds. That’s no surprise as he’s the best player in the sport. Who is second? I thought you’d never ask. Bosa. The kicker here is that Nick’s odds are 9/1. Vegas believes there is a legitimate chance that a second-year player will be the Defensive Player of the Year.
We talked about Bosa’s expectations late last week. When you see who I selected for the 49ers in SB Nation’s writers mock, it’s to protect players like Bosa from getting double-teamed every play. If the 49ers continue to maximize the production they get out of the defensive line; Bosa will be the Defensive Player of the Year in no time.
