The Seattle Seahawks were linked to a few veteran running backs this past week. Some thought they’d sign former Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman, but Seattle signed former San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde, who continues to have nine lives in this league. The deal for Hyde is one-year, and he can earn up to four million.
Hyde spent the first four years of his career with the 49ers, though he never eclipsed 1,000 yards. Fumbles haunted Hyde in 2016, and those same issues showed up again last year with the Texans. Last year Hyde had a career-high in carries and finally passed 1,000 yards rushing in a single season. Hyde has always been a “tease” when talking talent. He has a couple of carries a game that impresses you, but other carries leave you wanting more, and that’s before we get into the fumbles.
Who knows what his role will be in Seattle as they have Chris Carson and Rashad Penny. Hyde always finds a way to get touches, though, so don’t rule him out. If he’s on the roster, he’ll have two chances to get a crack at the team that drafted him this upcoming season. It’s a revenge game of sorts until you compare the offensive line of the Seahawks and the defensive line of the Niners.
