NBC Sports Matt Maiocco guessed which undrafted free agents the San Francisco 49ers signed have the best chance at making the roster. If money is any indicator, the answer is nose tackle Darrion Daniel from Nebraska and wide receiver Chris Finke from Notre Dame. Here is how much guaranteed money each player received:
RB JayMycal Hasty: $90k
DB DeMarcus Acy: $60K
RB Salvon Ahmed: $50K
Those five players were the only ones who Maiocco listed as receiving guaranteed money. We predicted Daniel would make the final 53 because there is nobody else on the roster that can play the position besides D.J. Jones.
Finke being the second-highest-paid UDFA is surprising. I’m curious if the coaching staff values Finke’s return skills over what’s on the roster. Richie James was good in 2019, but that shouldn’t prevent you from wanting to improve. That, plus the future looks bleak at wide receiver as it stands today. After Deebo Samuel, there isn’t a receiver under contract after 2021, so San Francisco could look to groom Finke.
The running backs aren’t surprising considering the success the 49ers have at the position. Hasty is the receiving threat that’s lacking on the roster out of the backfield outside of Jerrick McKinnon. Ahmed is quick and shouldn’t be overlooked, but Hasty should have the leg up on him.
