Golden Nuggets: Schedule being released on Thursday

Wednesday, May 6th, 2020 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

NFL: Combine Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The 2020 schedule will be released on Thursday. The 49ers will be facing the AFC and NFC East as well as Green Bay and New Orleans. Their schedule is the 4th toughest. They will face 6 teams who made the playoffs last season. Their home opponents will be Philly, Washington, Green Bay, Buffalo, Miami and their division rivals. Their away opponents are Dallas, New England, New Orleans, New York Giants, and the New York Jets.

This season will be the first that the new expanded playoffs will implemented. In the new playoff format, only the top seed in each conference will have byes. Each conference will get an additional wild card team. Last season, they would have been the only team in the NFC to have the bye. The 7th team would have been the Rams and they would have played Green Bay.

The team surprised a lot of people last season when they were one of the best teams in football. They will not have the luxury of surprising teams this year. They will have a target on their back and teams that make it to the Super Bowl usually have a tough time making it back. In their division, Arizona looks to have improved, but LA seems to be in rough shape. Seattle still has Russell Wilson, which will always make them dangerous. Still, the 49ers should be the favorites and they have the players to make another run at the Lombardi.
