Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer listed his top contenders for Offensive Rookie of the Year and added their odds of winning it per OddShark. Joe Burrow was first, followed by Jonathan Taylor and Tua Tagovalioa. Taylor is in a great situation with the Colts as they have arguably the best offensive line in the NFL, and Taylor is a stud himself.
Fourth place? San Francisco 49ers first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk:
4) Brandon Aiyuk, WR, 49ers (+3000): Kyle Shanahan has a very clear vision for his receivers, and you’ll see quickly that’s true of Aiyuk. Plus, he showed last year his ability to get rookie production out of the position (Deebo Samuel had 57 catches for 802 yards and three scores). So I think Aiyuk will be the quickest to translate of the rookie receivers, and he’s my top contender among them for OROY.
What’s holding Aiyuk back is volume. He’s in a perfect offense for his skill set and should still have a good amount of opportunities, but will that be enough to put him over 1,000 yards? As you can see Samuel’s stats above, that’s what I’d project Aiyuk to be around. Samuel will improve, George Kittle will always get his numbers, then add in Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor, and that makes for a lot of cooks in the kitchen.
What are your stat projections for Aiyuk?
