Mike Garofolo of NFL Network reported that one of the San Francisco 49ers players working out in Nashville tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of the group of wideouts is getting tested and trying to figure out how and when they can travel. Some of the players live in Nashville, so they will just hunker down. We won’t know who the player is as “federal and state privacy laws prohibit the 49ers from commenting on the personal health of their employers.” That was the HIPAA violation Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott complained about earlier this week. The Niners are the third team that received positive COVID-19 tests on Friday, and this appears like a sign of things to come.
If you’re wondering who it may be, the players involved were essentially all of the wideouts, tight ends, and quarterbacks, so you’re dealing with over 15 players. Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, other players from the Cowboys and Texans and a Buccaneers assistant coach have tested positive recently. There have also positive tests at several colleges where football players are working out and teams from other sports have had to halt workouts because of outbreaks at their facilities.
