You didn’t think we’d go a San Francisco 49ers injury at wide receiver without mentioning Dez Bryant, did you? In the midst of losing Deebo Samuel for at least two months to a broken foot and Richie James breaking his wrist, fans have entertained the idea of far-fetched options like Antonio Brown. They’ve also considered more realistic options such as Taylor Gabriel.

Kendrick Bourne could have put out the fire in regards to the Niners signing a free agent, but instead, he poured gasoline on it:

If you have seen any of Bryant’s videos working out in the past year, they’re not a ringing endorsement to sign the former Dallas Cowboy. The last time Bryant caught a pass in the NFL, Eric Reid and Carlos Hyde were starting for San Francisco.

If you are in the camp that the 49ers should sign Bryant, I’d love to hear why, aside from his name. Wouldn’t you want those reps to go to a younger wideout such as Jalen Hurd or Brandon Aiyuk?

Bourne is likely just messing around and getting fans riled up. It’s June. There is nothing to talk about. We’re going to entertain the idea of signing anyone. I doubt anyone believes the 49ers are going to sign a wideout. It makes sense for the 49ers to go through a week of training camp, see where the current wideouts are on the roster, and get a better idea of when Samuel and James will return to the field. From there, they will evaluate and decide if there need to be any free agent signings.
