Two more San Francisco 49ers are on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list going into the 2020 season.
Defensive lineman Nick Bosa comes in at No. 17. The 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year was a wrecking machine in his lone season, racking up 47 tackles, 15 of them were for a loss, 9 sacks, and 25 QB hits.
The 22-year-old is the highest-ranked member from last year’s draft class. Pro Football Focus gave Bosa a grade of 89.8 last season, which is the second-best among edge rushers in 2019.
The scary thing is Bosa will only get better. His pass rushing moves are already refined, he’s fast, and has the mentality of a junkyard dog on the field.
Joining Bosa on the list is cornerback Richard Sherman, who is back after not being ranked in the top 100 going into last season. The 32-year-old was one of the best corners in the game in 2019, finishing with 61 tackles, three interceptions, 11 passes defensed and a TD. Sherman earned another Pro Bowl selection, and was named a second-team All-Pro.
Sherman was ranked No. 64 in 2018. Despite getting up there in age, he continues to lockdown the left side of the field for the 49ers’ defense. He’s entering the final year of his contract with the team, and if he plays at a high-level again in 2020, general manager John Lynch will definitely look at re-signing him.
Bosa and Sherman join linebacker Fred Warner (No. 70), and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (No. 43) on the list. San Francisco has five players ranked in the top 100, so we know we will see tight end George Kittle’s spot on the list soon.
Which 49ers’ players currently not ranked in the top 100 do you think will be on the list going into the 2021 season?
