The San Francisco 49ers were back on the field for practice Sunday morning, and the team lost a few more players to injury. Rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk appeared to injure his left hamstring while running a deep route. He pulled up lame and was noticeably limping when he walked off the field.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t provide any updates about Aiyuk’s injury, but hopefully, it’s just a pulled muscle. The rookie has been impressive in practices so far and appeared to be finding his stride with the offense and building chemistry with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Dee Ford also left practice after tweaking his right calf during one-on-one drills and did not return to the field. The good news is that he was jogging on the sidelines after the injury, but did not participate in any of the team drills.
Offensive lineman Ross Reynolds suffered the most serious injury of the day. He was carted off the field after hurting his left knee. His teammates came over to wish him well, and tackle Mike McGlinchey praised Reynolds saying he has done whatever the team has needed from him, and how tough it is to see Reynolds go down before the seasons starts.
The 49ers had a ton of players missing from practice. Richard Sherman and Nick Bosa both had a maintenance day, but are expected to be back on the field this week. Tight end Ross Dwelley, center Ben Garland, corner K’Waun Williams, and defensive lineman D.J. Jones all sat out as they recover from their own injuries.
