The San Francisco 49ers signed CFL Rookie of the Year runner-up Dakoda Shepley after working out the right guard earlier this week, per his agent. Shepley was the Roughriders 2019 nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie. He was selected fifth overall in the 2018 CFL Draft. The 24-year-old Shepley signed with the Jets as a UDFA after the 2018 NFL Draft and played three preseason games. Shepley is 6’4”, 310-pounds. The team released OL Kofi Amichia as the corresponding move.
Matt Maiocco tweeted that the Niners will also add TE MarQueis Gray. He was an undrafted rookie in 49ers camp in 2013. Ross Dwelley’s foot is still bothering him, and with George Kittle having a tight hamstring, another body is needed at tight end in practice. Gray has 27 career receptions for 328 yards. He had not played in the NFL since 2017 when Gray was with the Dolphins. His career-high in receiving yards for a season is 174 yards. Kyle Shanahan has been adamant about limiting Jordan Reed’s reps, so adding Gray makes sense while Kittle and Dwelley get healthy.
