Vikings trade for Yannick Ngakoue

Is Minnesota closer to challenging the 49ers?

There was a trade early Sunday morning between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings:

Jaguars get:

2nd-round pick in 2021

Conditional 5th-round pick in 2022

Vikings get:

DE Yannick Ngakoue

Ngakoue will rework his 1-year, $17.788 million franchise tender to complete the deal.

Ngakoue turned down a $19 million deal from the Jaguars. Jacksonville now gets another pick for their inevitable late-season win that takes them out of the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes so they can trade that pick to move up in the draft. The Vikings now have two playmakers at each level of the defense.

My question to you: Who won this trade?

Jacksonville was going to be awful either way this year. Now they add a draft pick and don’t have to pay $19 million to a player who didn’t want to play.

Minnesota adds a pass rusher opposite of Danielle Hunter. Adding Ngakoue also helps their secondary. As of today, I’d consider the top teams in the NFC to be the 49ers, Saints, and Cowboys. Does adding Ngakoue put Minnesota in that first tier?
