When the 49ers decided not to sign Tom Brady as a free agent this offseason, they were making a public and definitive statement showing exactly how they felt about Jimmy Garoppolo. Both Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch are on the record as saying Jimmy is the best choice for the team in 2020.
That said, how do people outside the 49ers bubble view Jimmy Garoppolo? Is he the quick-released marksman who moves the chains on third down like the Faithful think he is? Or is he a glorified game-manager standing on the shoulders of a great play-caller?
Niner Nate was joined by Jason Puckett of KJR radio in Seattle, and Puckett left little doubt where he stands. “I don’t think there’s a person up here that fears Jimmy Garoppolo.” Puckett said, “Until you put the offense on his shoulders and say, ‘We need you to carry us to victory,’ sometimes you just don’t know if guys can answer that bell. I’m not saying that he can’t, I’m just saying I don’t think we have enough information on whether or not he can.”
