The 49ers finished up Thursday’s practice with some good and some bad news. The good: Brandon Aiyuk returned and reportedly looked like his usual self, showing no effects from his hamstring injury. I wouldn’t expect to see Aiyuk showcased on Sunday as he’s been out for some time, but the fact that he’ll suit up and be an option is fantastic news for the offense.

For the second day in a row, Ben Garland practiced. That’s promising, and if Garland is out there on Friday for the third day in a row, I’d guess he plays.

Deebo Samuel was not on-hand for the portion that was available to the media. I think it’s safe to say we can rule him out for Sunday’s game. Obviously, it’s not a death knell but more of a bummer that we won’t get to see Samuel to start the season. If we’re thinking big picture, Samuel should take as much time as he needs and come back when you’re fully healthy.

Here’s a look at Thursday’s injury report for both the Niners and the Arizona Cardinals:

Did not participate — WR Deebo Samuel (foot), CB Jason Verrett (hamstring)

Limited participation — OL Ben Garland (ankle), WR Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring)

WR KeeSean Johnson (not injury related), T Josh Jones (ankle)

TE Maxx Williams (ankle)

Full participation:
