49ers final injury report: Deebo Samuel ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals

Garland and Aiyuk are questionable

There were questions about whether the San Francisco 49ers would practice on Friday as the air quality had risen above 200 as practice was set to begin. The AQI dipped under 200 as the players took the field, so the team decided to practice. The air quality is going to be something to monitor all weekend. The NFL will make a decision on Saturday whether the game needs to be postponed or moved. You’d think they would have moved the game to Arizona and swapped out the Week 17 matchup long ago with all the fires going on in the Bay Area, but here we are.

The 49ers released their final injury report ahead of Week 1, and with Deebo Samuel not practicing all week, the odds of him playing against the Cardinals Sunday were slim. The good news is Ben Garland and Brandon Aiyuk were both on hand, and we can expect the two to play Sunday. To me, having Garland play is more important than having Deebo play based on the current injuries. No, Garland is not more crucial to the Niners’ success than Samuel. You’d much rather have your offensive line intact Week 1 than miss a starting wideout. That’s all I’m saying.

Here is the injury report for both the 49ers and the Cardinals:

Out — CB Jason Verrett (hamstring), WR Deebo Samuel (foot)

Questionable — WR Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring), Ben Garland (ankle)

Let’s hope the latter two suit up.There were questions about whether the San Francisco 49ers would practice on Friday as the air quality had risen above 200 as practice was set to begin. Tevin Coleman did not practice. If the air quality is bad on Sunday, he presumably will not play. Coleman has has sickle-cell trait. If Coleman can’t go, expect the team to call up JaMycal Hasty.
