NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the San Francisco 49ers would host former Seahawks pass rusher Ziggy Ansah for a workout on Tuesday. Ansah is already in Santa Clara as of Sunday morning, going through COVID-19 testing in preparation for the workout. This will be Ansah’s second visit to the 49ers this summer. The Niners signed Dion Jordan over Ansah, but Jordan was disappointing throughout training camp and landed on the team’s practice squad. They did not call Jordan up for Week 1.
With Ronald Blair on the PUP list and the depth behind the starters on the edge questionable, going in Ansah’s direction makes sense has he has played at a high level before in the NFL. However, injuries have taken a toll on Ansah, and it’s noticeable when you watch him play. The 49ers must’ve chosen Jordan over Ansah for a reason. Also, Ansah is still a free agent for a reason. With that said, it’s worth giving him a look, and the 49ers won’t ask Ansah to come in and be a savior. He’d need to provide the team with 15-25 quality snaps, which Ansah should be able to do.
