Late Saturday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that the Niners would have two wide receivers to assist Jimmy Garoppolo against the Jets. Newly signed Mohamed Sanu and rookie Brandon Aiyuk. Sanu has only had a walkthrough practice, but he’s a veteran. Garoppolo seemed to have good chemistry instantaneously with Emmanuel Sanders last year, so perhaps the same will be true with Sanu? Let’s hope so. Aiyuk and Garoppolo were on the same page right away during training camp, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he led the team in targets on Sunday.
Schefter also noted that George Kittle has a sprained MCL, though it’s believed Kittle will join the team in West Virginia next week and will play next Sunday against the Giants. Here is what Schefter had in his article:
An MRI on Monday revealed the damage to Kittle’s MCL, but he was spotted around the Niners’ training facility this past week walking without a limp, bolstering the belief — and hope — that he will be back for Week 3.
Here are the 49ers inactives:
TE George Kittle
QB C.J. Beathard
DE Dee Ford
OL Tom Compton
CB Jason Verrett
LB Demetrius Flanagan-Fowles
That means Kentavius Street and Ben Garland are active. Garland should start once again at center. Compton being inactive over Colton McKivitz, isn’t a great look for the veteran journeymen.
