The 49ers are finalizing a one-year deal with Ziggy Ansah

Kyle’s update, 10:52 a.m.: The 49ers are finalizing a one-year deal with Ansah, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:

Last week, the San Francisco 49ers hosted edge rusher Ziggy Ansah for a workout, but the two sides couldn’t agree on financial terms, and Ansah left the Bay Area without a deal. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the 49ers are flying Ansah to the east coast to meet them with the expectation that Ansah signs after going through COVID testing.

With Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas likely out for the season with torn ACLs, San Francisco may be forced to sign two edge rushers this week. That is unless they’re going to promote Dion Jordan. We’ll talk more about potential free agents as the week goes on, but Ansah was the obvious answer, and Kyle Shanahan hinted at this signing during his postgame press conference on Sunday.

Anash not agreeing to the previous financial terms looks smart on his part now. Ansah was drafted in 2014 and has never played more than 708 snaps in a season. He’s averaged 497 during his second-year career. For reference, Thomas has averaged 607 snaps per season in his three-year career. Ansah finished with a PFF grade of 56.0 during 2019 with the Seahawks and had the same pass rush grade as he had three sacks and six QB hits. The 49ers will need Ansah to be healthy and perform. He doesn’t have to come in and be a star player, but Ansah must be a competent pass rusher that is productive.

I imagine it’s safe to assume the player who shined under Kris Kocurek will suit up next Sunday against the Giants.
