NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that, after further evaluation, edge rusher Dee Ford has been ruled out for Week 3’s game against the New York Gianta, and there’s no clear timetable for his return. Pelissero said the hope is Ford’s back injury settles down, but it may take some time. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen someone with a bad back or someone who has neck injuries all of a sudden heal. There’s a reason that the 49ers should look to bring in another free agent pass rusher.

Before Week 1, Ford said his expectation was to play all 16 games. Now, it’s unlikely we see Ford back in the lineup any time soon. That puts more pressure on guys like Kerry Hyder and players who were initially thought of as depth to perform. Ziggy Ansah will play during Week 3, but he’ll only practice once before the game. The issue with signing a player off the street right now is they’re unlikely to be in shape to play “starter” snaps. Ansah will have to play his way into shape.

Here is my question for you. Have we seen the last of Dee Ford this season? To take it a step further, in a 49ers uniform? There have been rumors floating around social media that Ford could be done for the season.
