The San Francisco 49ers released CB Christian Angulo from the team’s practice squad. Angulo (6-2, 190) originally signed to the team’s practice squad on September 16, 2020. This move comes after the 49ers re-signed defensive lineman Alex Barrett for the third time in a month and a half to the practice squad.
Speaking of practice squads, you’re allowed to protect certain players every Tuesday. The 49ers protected running back JaMycal Hasty, who showed well during training camp when he had the opportunity. Hasty will likely be promoted to the active roster this coming Sunday and serve as the team’s third running back behind Jeff Wilson Jr. and Jerick McKinnon. Hasty ended a few practices with highlight runs where he juked a few defenders. Some of his teammates called him “filthy” in a good way. I wonder how much Hasty we’ll see against New York. If there was a time to see what Hasty could give you out of the backfield as a receiver, it’s against the Giants, who start two new inside linebackers this season. One of them is a familiar face, Blake Martinez.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 49ers worked out Paul Perkins, Karan Higdon, and Austin Walter with Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman sidelined. Walter was with the Niners during the preseason of 2019. If Mostert is out for three weeks, the 49ers could place him on the short-term injured reserve list, create a roster spot, and sign one of these players. Hopefully, that’s not the case, and the team promotes Hasty as Mostert only misses a game or two.
