The San Francisco 49ers will be shorthanded for their Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, cornerback Richard Sherman, running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman are OUT for this game but are expected back within the next few weeks, while defensive lineman Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas are done for the season.
Nick Mullens will get the start at QB, while Jerick McKinnon will get the lions share of carries out of the back field.
The New York Giants are 0-2 to the start the season and will be without star running back Saquon Barkley, who tore his ACL last week against the Chicago Bears.
New York is fourth in the NFL in yards against, giving up just 326 per game. The 49ers’ defense should be able to contain a struggling Giants’ offense that is sitting 29th in the league in yards per game, and is averaging just 14.5 points through two contests.
If San Francisco wants to be in postseason contention, this is a game it has to win. New York is one of the weaker teams in the league, but nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.
