San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media to provide a few injury updates after Sunday’s game.
Emmanuel Moseley — Concussion
Jerick McKinnon — Upper Ribs
Jordan Reed — Ankle, Knee
Mark Nzeocha — Quad
Moseley and Reed were both ruled out around halftime. I didn’t see where McKinnon got hurt, but I imagine if the game were close, he would have been able to return. As for Reed, Shanahan said he’s optimistic that his injuries are long-term.
Shanahan was asked whether long snapper Kyle Nelson was dealing with an injury, but Shanahan said he’s unaware of any issues Nelson is dealing with. Special teams coach Richard Hightower told Kyle that Justin Skule had practiced long snapping during the week, so the 49ers gave Skule a try. Of all of the things you’d think the 49ers would struggle with today, long snapping would have been at the very bottom. Shanahan said that Mike McGlinchey also has experience as a long snapper. We’ll see if Nelson is back out there next week.
Shanahan said he knew the team would play well based on how they performed during the week at practice. He said the guys were confident last night: Our team kind of expected this. We had a lot of confidence going into this game.”
On Mullens: “Nick can make every single throw we need him to make. He did a hell of a job today. Not only did he execute, but he made a number of off-schedule plays too. I was really happy with Nick.”
On Jason Verrett: “I was so happy for Jason Verrett. He’s a stud. He’s been a great player in this league. He played great in camp. I felt like he was going to do a good job today, and he did.”
As far as score updates go, the Eagles tied with the Bengals. The 49ers should win their next two games and go into their divisional matchup against the with Rams 4-1 record.
