Per Jennifer Lee Chan, edge rusher Ronald Blair will start the season on the PUP list. That’s not too surprising as Blair still has a noticeable limp as he’s rehabbing. He didn’t look like a guy that was going to play any time soon. Hopefully, the depth along the defensive line can hold up. Blair is as quality of a backup as it gets, and I’d say that would go for any position.

Jennifer said she spoke to Blair’s agent, and he’s doing fine, and his recovery is going well, but he needs an additional six weeks to be 100%. The depth at edge rusher could become a concern if Dee Ford isn’t healthy. Solomon Thomas would have to kick back outside. Other than him, you have Kerry Hyder behind Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead.

Matt Maiocco reported that Deebo Samuel would be activated off the NFI list, making him eligible for Week 1. That’s huge. I imagine Samuel is fully healthy. He looked great running a couple of weeks ago, and he was only going to feel better as time went on. Kudos to Samuel for working his tail off. The 49ers enter the season with Samuel active is big. Now, it’s up to Samuel getting into game shape and being ready to play by Week 1.
