The San Francisco 49ers today announced they had activated LB Fred Warner from the Reserve/Covid-19 List.

Warner returns as the 49ers take the field to prepare for the Arizona Cardinals Week 1. I don’t know that there was ever any doubt that Warner would play Week 1, but this is refreshing to know that he won’t have to wait until the last minute to suit up. Kliff Kingsbury raved about the 49ers linebackers’ speed, and Warner is a big part of that. If you recalled during the Halloween matchup last season, Warner had an opportunity for a pick-six, but he dropped it. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to make plays this season. I can’t wait to watch him.

There doesn’t need to be a corresponding roster move for the Fred Warner activation, because they only had 52 players on the active roster.

The Reserve/Covid-19 List has been created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to place the player on the Reserve/COVID-19 List immediately. Clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status and may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.
