The 49ers could see their defensive coordinator and the heart of their front office leave the team in the next few weeks. While none of that is exactly unexpected, it will be a tremendous task to patch those holes.
Reports were coming from all parts of the internet yesterday about current 49ers that are on the cusp of getting new jobs. NFL Media reported that Robert Saleh is meeting with the New York Jets after becoming a finalist for their head coaching job, VP of Player Personnel Adam Peters is a finalist to become the general manager in Carolina, and VP of Player Personnel Martin Mayhew will interview with the Washington Football Team for the general manager position in D.C.
While the team would receive three 3rd round picks in compensation if Saleh and Mayhew leave thanks to the NFL’s new minority hiring rules, that hardly makes up for the loss of brainpower that they will have to sustain going forward.
