With the official hiring of new coordinators this week, the 2021 49ers have already begun to take shape. The team is likely already huddling up to discuss potential offseason avenues of improvement, with none being more important than the path they take at quarterback.
In today’s episode of the Niner Nate-tion Podcast, Nate Nelson and Leo Luna were joined by John Chapman of the 49ers Rush Podcast to get a scouting report of the big three quarterbacks that have been bandied about in every 49ers mock draft written this year.
John wasn’t shy about which QB in this class would work the best in the Kyle Shanahan system.
“Trey Lance ran the most complicated offense out of any draft-eligible quarterback, and it’s not even close...This is a guy that called out his protection at the line of scrimmage every play that he started in his college career...He’s a mobile quarterback, he protects the ball like crazy, his ceiling as far as athleticism is as high as anybody not named Trevor Lawrence in this draft. I’m a big Trey Lance guy.”
You can hear the full Trey Lance scouting report, as well as reports on Zach Wilson and Justin Fields, in today’s Niners Nation Podcast in the player below.
