For the four teams left in the playoffs, this is a great time of year. For the fans of the other 28 NFL franchises, not so much. One thing that does make a postseason without the 49ers palatable is the abundance of mock drafts that permeate every corner of NFL Twitter. While most of what we’ve seen has the 49ers taking either a quarterback or a cornerback in the first round, one man has dared to be different. And that man is NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.
According to Jeremiah’s scenario, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts tumbles all the way down the draft board and into Kyle Shanahan’s lap at number 12. That was a prospect that was pretty compelling for our own Kyle Posey in today’s Niners Nation podcast.
“I was watching Florida’s offense on Friday morning and every time Pitts was one-on-one, he would make his guy look silly. He would get open so effortlessly, so easily, he’s going to be a star in this league...In the 49ers’ offense, they would be so multiple because you could go Aiyuk, Kittle, Pitts, and Deebo, and just live in that formation.”
The 49ers do love position-less football, and I’ve been so focused on either QBs or CBs that I haven’t really given any thought to other directions San Francisco can go this April. It would definitely make National Tight Ends Day even more fun.
What do you think of the Pitts idea? If you need more convincing, listen to the whole conversation in today’s Niners Nation Podcast.
