The 49ers hired an assistant coach on Friday. Former Packers’ senior analyst Butch Barry will serve as the 49ers' new assistant offensive line coach, per ESPN’s Rob Demvosky.
Barry has coached 19 seasons at either the collegiate or professional level. Barry served as the University of Miami’s offensive line coach. Prior to coaching for the Hurricanes, Barry coached for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2015-2019 where he held the title of assistant offensive line coach.
Latest Matthew Stafford trade rumors: A lot of smoke coming from 49ers, Colts
Over the past 48 hours, the 49ers have overtaken the Colts as the team with the most favorable Vegas odds to win the Stafford sweepstakes. There has been a ton of smoke specifically pointing to San Francisco as a team already pitching deals to the Lions. I’m not going to bother signal boosting those as they’re coming from wishy-washy sources.
Most of it is probably just noise, but if there’s enough noise, sometimes there’s actual truth behind it. The most reputable source that’s mentioned the connection is that of NFL insider Benjamin Allbright
It’s worth mentioning that Allbright also believes the Colts are in the mix.
Lions probably getting at least one first-round pick
Unless some creative deals work around a first-round pick, it’s becoming pretty clear that’s the starting point for most negotiations. According to Peter King, he believe five teams will offer at least a first-round pick.
Why the 49ers should be comfortable with Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021
Despite running one of the most efficient offenses in the NFL, most people will merely recall the dreadful 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. After outplaying Patrick Mahomes for three quarters, Garoppolo failed to make critical throws to seal the 49ers’ victory. With a 20-10 lead, Garoppolo went just 3-of-6 for 36 yards and an interception. In the final moments, Garoppolo overthrew Emmanuel Sanders and succumbed to a fourth-down sack that clinched the win for the Chiefs. As quickly as the 49ers felt the Lombardi Trophy slip from their grasp, the story changed for Jimmy Garoppolo. While he deserves a share of the blame, there were defensive miscues as well that allowed the Chiefs to comeback in the fourth quarter.
Eagles offer coordinator job to 49ers assistant Michael Clay
According to Zach Berman of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Eagles have offered their special teams coordinator job to San Francisco 49ers assistant Michael Clay.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic was the first to report the Eagles’ interest in Clay, who is also scheduled to or already has interviewed with the New York Jets for a similar position on Robert Saleh’s staff.
Clay has spent the past five seasons with the 49ers. He started his coaching career with the Eagles in 2014. Nick Sirianni was hired as Philadelphia’s new head coach on January 24.

Bourne is an excellent third receiving option, but is set to be an unrestricted free agent. It’s likely that he will be able to get a contract in the $6 million range, and that would be more than the 49ers will likely be looking to pay their third-best wide receiver.
